Kindergarten children are looked after in the Gainsborough, Jones, Queensdale, Etobicoke and Richview centres in before and after school programs. The times of these programs are determined by the times of the school they attend. These programs are based on “learning by playing”. At the end of a school day, the 4 or 5-year-old child especially wants to play because he has been busy all day at school. He wants to play games with simple rules with his playmates. He learns to get along with them, play as a team and understand the concept of sharing.
Little by little, he begins to explain the rules of a game or an activity to the others; to play cooperatively in a group of 2 to 3 children; to apologize for unintentional actions; to understand what is right and what is wrong; to listen to others when they are talking. Our educators have the role to support the child in acquiring these skills.
